The Science Behind MyBreathPrint
Early Disease Detection Inspired by Our K9 Companions
With about 220 million scent receptors — humans only have 5 million — dogs can smell things that seem unfathomable to us. Dogs have smell receptors 10,000 times more accurate than humans, which means their nose is powerful enough to detect substances at concentrations of one part per trillion — a single drop of liquid in 20 Olympic-size swimming pools!
Dogs are also known for detecting cancer. They can be trained to sniff out a variety of types, including skin, breast and bladder cancer, using samples from known cancer patients and people without cancer.
What if you could reduce or alleviate the dread, pain, expense, wait and risk of the diagnostic journey by developing a system that can identify disease in the breath, like a dog’s nose can, while also improving outcomes through early detection with regular noninvasive, painless screenings? This question is at the heart of Vocxi’s mission and vision to develop the most approachable, accessible and accurate breath diagnostic, saving millions of lives, one patient at a time.
What is a volatile organic compound?
VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS (VOCs) are gaseous molecules. They can originate either from within the body (endogenous VOCs) through a process called lipid peroxidation or from external sources such as diet, prescription drugs and environmental exposure (exogenous VOCs). VOCs progress into the bloodstream, filtering through the lungs every minute. Your lungs, very efficient tissue-based filters, expel these VOCs with every exhale.
Diseases have detectable VOC patterns
STUDIES HAVE IDENTIFIED OVER 1,000 VOCs that can be found in human breath. Alongside respiratory droplets, VOCs provide a rich source of information regarding an individual’s health and also have great potential to serve as indicators of disease onset and progression as well as overall health status. Decades of research into VOCs have associated unique complex mixtures of VOC biomarker metabolites with specific diseases.
Multi-VOC patterns can identify health
VOCs CAN BE ANALYZED TO IDENTIFY CHEMICAL elements and patterns to reproduce a combination as unique as a fingerprint…or a BreathPrint®. A BreathPrint pattern can change based on what you eat, what you inhale, etc., but MyBreathPrint® was developed to ignore the noise of your morning coffee breath and focus on your metabolism and potential disease markers. Each disease leaves its distinctive mark on a BreathPrint.
How the System Works
Establishing Your BreathPrint After One Minute of Breathing
how the data travels
From Your Breath to Your Doctor in Seconds
The MyBreathPrint system really is this simple to use, with immediate, accurate results delivered in a matter of seconds.
BREATHE
The patient breathes into the mask attached to the MyBreathPrint device for one minute.
Cloud
The electrochemical patterns captured by the device’s sensor array are sent instantly through the MyBreathPrint app to the cloud.
BreathML
The BreathML platform generates a BreathPrint and analyzes whether a patient has a disease/ ailment or does not.
NOTIFICATION
MyBreathPrint delivers the analysis and patient’s results directly to the physician.
discuss
The physician meets with the patient to discuss the results and if next steps are necessary.
patient experience
BREATHE
Bring the mask to your face, covering your mouth and nose and breathe into the mask for one minute.
results
Results are being delivered to your physician in a matter of seconds.
next steps
Your doctor will receive your BreathPrint and can share the results with you immediately!
With its metabolomic approach and machine-learning platform, MyBreathPrint is a highly accurate, accessible, noninvasive disease detector.
